Day 3 Nervous System Reset - Sounding It Out

My loves,

Welcome to Day 3 of our 7 day nervous system reset - “Sounding It Out.” There is a little bit of sound interference on today’s practice recording but as it goes with the theme I’ve left it as it is! The main focus is on you making the sound and experiencing the vibration in your own body so feel free to switch me off once you understand what you’re doing!

Today we’re chanting the sound: “voo” - a practice created by Peter Levine in his body of work, Somatic Experiencing. When chanted correctly - from the belly, not the chest or head - this sound has the ability to stimulate the vagus nerve and create feelings of calm in the body. It’s also a really great one for when we’re feeling stuck or shutdown in dorsal vagal complex to help us feel our way back into the body and into reconnection.

If you wish to use another sound to chant with I would recommend om/aum, or any of the bija (seed) mantras - lam, vam, ram, yam, ham (pronounced with “uh” rather than “a” - so “lum,” “vum” etc. These are powerful mantras within the yoga tradition. It is believed that the goddess resides in each of the phonemes of the Sanskrit alphabet so when we chant these seed sounds, we are in fact invoking the Mother Herself.

Sound vibration can help boost the immune system, rejuvenate cells, and shift our energetic frequency. This is one of my favourite tools to have in my self-care toolbox and is one I practice daily.

I hope you enjoy.

The Art of Relaxation

Play this whilst taking a moment to sit and be, or maybe chant along with it. See if you can feel the sound vibration move upwards through your body from the pelvic floor to the crown of the head.

Enjoy.
